Made in the USA: Strategic Advantage Through Dual Supply Chains

Not all shoe companies closed their factories in the US. Red Wing’s three US factories ship specialized work boots to dealers worldwide while high-volume factories in China make the company’s popular Vasque hiking boots and other products for retailers globally. As the on-shoring movement gains steam, Red Wing is already there, demonstrating the huge advantages of having both a rapid response and a low cost supply chain.

Bill Sweasy is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for Red Wing Shoe Company, Inc. The company markets the Red Wing, WORX, Vasque and Irish Setter brand footwear in the U.S. and internationally. The privately held company is based in Red Wing, Minnesota and also owns S.B. Foot Tanning Company and the St. James Hotel.

Sweasy received his business degree from the University of Minnesota in 1976, and has held various management positions within Red Wing Shoe Company since that time. As a native of Red Wing, Sweasy is active within the community, serving on the Board of Trustees for the Red Wing Family YMCA and the Science Museum of Minnesota. He also serves as a board member for the Minnesota Business Partnership, Outdoor Industry Association, Outdoor Foundation, Red Wing Area Fund and the Red Wing Shoe Company Foundation.
