Alec Rubio

Candidate, Class of 2027

Upon graduating from the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Alec received a USCG Unlimited Tonnage 3rd Mate license and a commission in the Navy Reserve as an Ensign in the Strategic Sealift Officer Force. Since then a little over a decade ago, Alec has been working on large cargo vessels taking all types of cargo all over the world. The majority of my sailing career was spent on roll-on roll-off carriers, which you can think of as a large 13-story parking garage with a huge ramp on the back for loading virtually anything that has wheels, tracks, or that can be put on a trailer. Alec has also sailed on container ships, tankers, and bulk carriers. For the past 6 years Alec has been sailing as Chief Officer. As the operational person in charge of the vessel, his main responsibilities include cargo, stability, maintenance, navigation, and crew management. Most recently in his Navy career, he has been involved in the Afloat Bridge Resource Management Workshops where they bring maritime and seamanship expertise to mentor navigation and watchstanding officers on Naval Warships. Alec’s current top fields of interest for after graduation include the energy and aerospace sectors, specifically anything that has to do with fusion energy and space.
